A Message on International Women's Day
As a women-owned and led startup, we recognize our role in female empowerment and honor our sisters who work tirelessly in the advancement of women's equality across the globe.
This year, the International Women's Day theme set forth by the UN: 'Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress' is especially resonant with us. Our mission heavily centers on women's well-being, with a laser focus on eye health. And that requires innovation and a whole lot of grit. Some days we feel like the entrenched institutions that exist to improve lives are working against us. Investor capital is still dominated by men. And—without access to capital—lobbying governments, challenging beauty standards and building awareness in the eyecare space can feel like climbing Mt. Everest.
Affecting change can be like watching paint dry, or grass grow. Of course no one does that. But all too often, we miss the wins (exhaustion will do that).
While it's easy to become frustrated at the lack of progress in keys areas in our pursuits, it's important to celebrate our moments, no matter how big or small.
So join us in not only celebrating the achievements of women in all areas of society around the world, but also your own!
International Women's Day is not a holiday that started in the Social Media age. It is rooted in Women's Suffrage dating back to 1910, when disparate groups joined forces to establish a day to mark women's progress. It's as if they knew how hard the journey ahead would be.
We stand on the shoulders of these heroic divas and replenish our resolve to keep forging ahead for our daughters, their daughters and so on, and so on.
Yes, there's work that still needs to be done. But today, let's bask in the knowledge of how far we've come.
Why International Women's Day matters:
International Women's Day is important because it raises awareness about the challenges that women face around the world. It is a day to celebrate the achievements of women in all areas of society and to advocate for equality.
