Dr. David A. Sullivan is a globally recognized pioneer in ocular surface disease research, with four decades of leadership at Harvard Medical School and the Schepens Eye Research Institute. His groundbreaking discoveries have transformed the global
understanding of dry eye disease, meibomian gland dysfunction, and the critical role hormones play in ocular surface health.


As Founder of the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS), he has united leading experts from more than 100 countries and helped establish the modern global standards for ocular surface care. With over 260 scientific publications, numerous patients, and more than 40 years of mentorship, his legacy is defined by real-world impact — advancing science, improving treatments, and empowering better vision care for millions worldwide.
