AMY'S JOURNEY
Meet Amy
Founder & Creator, Èyes Are The Story
Amy Gallant Sullivan is a visionary leader at the intersection of eye science, beauty, and
consumer health. With more than 20 years immersed in the ocular surface space, she is the founder of Boston-based ESSIRI Labs and the creator of Eyes Are The Story, the world’s first optocosmetics brand, engineered from the ground up to protect sensitive eyes without compromising performance, elegance, or integrity.
Raised in a household where science, medicine, and dry eye disease were part of everyday life, Amy’s path was shaped early. Her father, Dr. David A. Sullivan, is a globally respected Harvard Medical School scientist whose life’s work transformed the understanding of hormones, sex differences, and ocular surface disease. It was during a pivotal conversation with her father in Paris, near Place Saint-Michel, that Amy recognized a critical and overlooked issue: the cosmetics women apply daily could be silently damaging the ocular surface and compromising eye health.
That insight became her mission.
As Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society (TFOS), Amy has helped unite scientists, clinicians, regulatory experts, and industry leaders from more than 100 countries to advance evidence-based education and global standards in eye health. She is widely recognized as a leading voice on the impact of cosmetics, skincare, and lifestyle on the ocular surface, and has presented this work at major ophthalmology and optometry conferences worldwide—including in the United States, Italy, France, Brazil, Bulgaria, the United Kingdom, Spain, Saudi Arabia, China, Belgium, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Arab Emirates.
Amy is also the co-founder of the Italian & International Patrons of the Arts in the Vatican Museums, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to art through multi-sensory experiences, particularly for the blind and visually impaired, reflecting her lifelong commitment to vision, inclusion, and culture.
Today, Amy leads a global movement redefining beauty through science, safety, and
responsibility. Based between Boston and Paris, she continues to advocate for eye-safe
innovation, proving that beauty should never come at the expense of vision.
